Instagram updates June 2022

June has been a big month for Instagram updates, here is a breakdown of what’s new on Instagram in June 2022.

Pinned posts

You can now pin up to 3 posts to the top of your Instagram grid, these posts will stay at the top of your grid and any new posts will appear after them. You can change which posts you pin and then doesn’t seem to be a limit on how many times you can do this. Any posts that are shared onto your main grid, including reels posted to the grid, can be pinned.

Pinned posts are a great new feature as it gives you more control over what people see when they first come onto your account. Typically on a mobile when someone new views your profile they will only see these first 3 posts without scrolling. Pinning your most popular posts or posts that highlight your products or services, special offers and sales will mean that new followers will see the most important posts first.

90-second Reels

Reels are very popular on Instagram and new Reels functions seem to be added every week. One of the most interesting updates from June 2022 saw the extension of reels to up to 90 seconds in length. Although shorter reels are still the most entertaining this introduction of longer reels suggests that Instagram is looking for more informative and educational reels as well.

The longer format of reels suits more face-to-camera video and is a great option if you don’t want to go live as you can record and edit your video before uploading it to reels. It also means, unlike live video you could add voiceovers to tutorial reels, or overlay images, stickers and other interactive elements to your reels.

Facebook updates June 2022

The main update to Facebook in June 2022 was the launch of Facebook Reels. You may have also noticed that at the top of your Facebook home feed you now have a stories and reels tab. At the moment the Reels tab seems to be showing a random selection of reels but as Reels on Facebook becomes more popular I am sure will we start seeing reels from accounts that we follow.

Pinterest updates June 2022

Pinterest has added a new extension for WooCommerce websites which means you can now import your product catalogue directly into Pinterest from your website. It has been possible to get your products onto Pinterest from a Woocommerce website before this but the new extension will make the whole process a lot easier and less likely for errors.

Importing your product catalogue also means your product pins in your shop are live and any update that you make to your products on your website will automatically show up on your Pinterest product pins within your shop tab.
